What is a grid connect solar power system?
A Grid Connect Solar System links a series of solar panels through a power inverter into the grid. No electrical storage batteries are required as excess electricity generated by the solar panels which is not required by devices in the house is redirected into the grid. You can balance your power bill so that you have little or nothing to pay. Additionally, you can significantly reduce your residential or commercial premises greenhouse gas emissions by several tonnes per year.
What is Solar Power?
Solar power is the cleanest, most viable form of renewable energy available to help power your house. The availability and wide use of solar power shows exactly how versatile it is as a source of energy. The technology and the systems are becoming smaller, more efficient and better looking than ever. Australia is the luckiest country in the world. Our geography gives us the opportunity to use the most natural, sustainable and clean energy in our homes - the energy from the sun.
How Does a Grid Connect Solar System Work?
When power is being produced by the solar modules, the grid connect inverter will convert the DC electricity produced by the modules into 240V AC 50Hz electricity, which will then be used by the property, household. If the system is producing more power than is being consumed, the surplus power will be fed into the mains power grid causing your meter to spin backwards. The electricity companies will monitor the electricity fed into the grid by your system from the bi-directional meter and provide a credit on your bill. When the solar modules are not producing power, for example at night, The power you pushed into the grid during the day will then be pushed back for use during the night. If you use less power at night than what was produced during the day then your power bill will not be a bill anymore you will receive a cheque from your electricity provider.
Benefits of a Solar Power System
-
A solar power system generates clean electricity
-
Once the system has been purchased, electricity is generated from a 'free' resource - the sun
-
Solar Energy Systems add value to your home
-
Solar electricity is generated without emitting greenhouse gases and does not consume fossil fuels
-
Solar modules can be integrated into the building in the form of windows, walls, roof tiles or pergolas
-
Solar power can supplement or provide all your electricity consumption
-
Solar power can feed electricity back into the mains grid, running your meter backwards
-
Most solar modules have a warranty of more than 25 years and there are modules in operation, which were commissioned over 30 years ago
Components of a Grid Connect Solar Power System
-
A number of solar modules/panels
-
A mounting system
-
A grid connect inverter
-
Cabling, switches and fuses as well as signage required by Australian law
-
A bi-directional electricity meter
What goverment incentives are involved?
The government rebates are means tested. This simply means as long as your households combined income is below $100,000 pa you will be entitled to an $8,000 rebate to go towards purchasing solar power.
What are Electricity Tariff's?
Electricity tariffs are the charges we pay for electricity. These tariffs are about to rise. To counter these increased costs the government is introducing incentives for us to change the way we produce energy. A grid connect system allows you to produce green energy. This green energy will allow you to eliminate your tariff charges and actually earn money back. The green energy you are generating from your system is put into the grid and paid back to you at 3 times the rate you are charged.
What are REC's?
RECS are like shares with each product purchased earning you points. The larger the system you purchase and install the more points you earn. For example on a 1kw system will earn you TBA points which you can then sell on earning you $1000.
